biden. the issue of the supplemental, i imagine, mr. speaker, the gentleman has seen the press reports that i have and that the white house is anticipating sending up a $60 billion supplemental request for damage related to sandy, and i think tomorrow would be that day. at least according to press reports. the gentleman may know that the fema director testified to the house yesterday that the agency can meet its need through the spring associated with the disaster. approximately $2 billion has been delivered with about $5 billion remaining in the disaster relief fund. so, again, no one is here saying we don't want to deliver the necessary aid to the victims because that is a priority. and -- but looking forward to receiving that request and taking a look at the numbers and the need to make sure we can move forward on that as well. and lastly, mr. speaker, postal reform. you know, the gentleman and i have, yes, talked about this a lot. know that the issue has to do with the obligations of the postal service and how we can address those to create a more balanced prospect for the future,

of the good things about a choice when you had bill clinton pick al gore, when you had obama pick biden even when you had bush and cheney, they all, in their own way had their chemistry. but they also bring something to a ticket. or more important they do no harm. so they don't change the their at this. they don't change the essence of the message. so when cheney was picked, people might have said is he picking his daddy's friend or someone so old to help him. those are -- that could slap down a candidate but it doesn't change your whole thrust of your main selling point which was for romney, i could be a better steward of the economy than obama. so when -- you evaluate what happened yes so it was a great chemistry. >> bill: right. but politically -- again, it changed the focus of the campaign and then what did -- what did paul ryan bring? he didn't bring wisconsin. so you ended up with two candidates. had born in or lived in and paul ryan couldn't deliver either. >> here's the other thing. i think this is why these

officials. he met with u.s. troops in iraq and kuwait, and in iraqi mess with vice president biden and the general ray odierno, commander of the u.s. troops. more recently, senator casey has strong support of israel during the fighting in gaza last month. senator casey has said, quote, the u.s. must continue to support vigilance and the resolution with hamas. israel is the right under international law to set up a naval blockade, chief weapons from being sent to hamas, and the responsibility to protect its homeland. hamas is a terrorist organization that denies israel's right to exist. it has 5,000 rockets at israeli citizens and towns. it's a proxy for iran and the main impediment to peace in the region and, quote, then he goes on to say, israel's citizens deserve to live without fear as we move forward we must continue to do all we can to strengthen the unbreakable bond. how was that for clarity? as he heads into the second term next month, have no doubt he will continue to do just that. please welcome me -- join me in welcoming our friend, robert casey.
